I am happy to work with a mix of plants but would encourage you to consider native plants for the following reasons:
-They are adapted to our region which means they are hardier- requiring less maintenance by you (or me!)
-Our wildlife is adapted to these plants, so they can provide food and shelter for birds, butterflies, bees and other creatures
-They have deeper roots than lawn grass and many ornamental species which means they are more drought tolerant and that they do a better job filtering pollutants out of water before it goes into our lakes and rivers
-They need a home. ornamental and invasive species as well as hard surfaces and structures are taking over their habitat. We will be doing a great harm if we lose these species.
-They are better at air filtration and climate control than grass and many ornamental species
-There is so much beauty, variety and interest in our native plants that there is no reason to not choose them!
